When i first saw this picture it gave me the impression that these two girls were stuck togehter. The more i lokked at it and thought, it showed love, friendship, family, laughter, joy, some type of point, and compassion. What if the two girls weren't stuck together but instead took the picture like that to give out a message.

Chapter 6 (The Makers Eye)

1. Those are great factors to succesful writing and revision. To express your meaning with past siuations as more assistance is a good idea depending on the topic.

2.As I was reading my essay aloud to myself I realized that it was very unorganized and felt like i could use a little more details.. I need to find a better way to be more organized and can put some work into how i introduce my essay. I also sould find more people to critize my essay as well before i do a final paper.

3. In some way Murray telling me who the speaker was grabed my attention and influenced how I read and comprehend the quote. It gave me a bit of an insight but there will always be tips in a reading to understand it better. It makes me feel a different way about te quote that it could not have been a hundred years ago.

Journal Entry #7

1. Orwell tries to prove his point that the English language is in trouble by saying that our thoughts or feelings has something to do with it. He also blames our bad habits or even ways that we grew accustomed to has a part of it as well.
2. I do agree with Orwell with the part that the english language has become worse especially in schools and is being abused in our daily lives. Many people will agree with me on this because the older people has seen changes throught out their time.
3. I do not agree with all of Orwell’s rules. I don't belive in all cases that you should use a big word but instead cut to the cases and make it understandable for all readers. I believe using words people don't see all of the time is good for us, because if we don’t understand something that is what the dictionary is for. I don’t think someone should have to down grade their writing knowledge for someone else when they can simply look something up that they do not understand.
4. When Orwell says you should focus on pictures and sensations before you put words on paper, I think he wants the writer to know what they are describing and describe it in detail as if it were right in front of them and not in their brain. I think the details is the point that gives essay the creativity.

Questions for Active Reading (Lightman and Goud)

pg371
1. In this particular story the technique was good in some sort to see preview of this story.

2. Yes it is important to know that lightman is a scientist because it gives the readers more insight of who is the main character. It's more clearer that Ligtman is a scientist because of all the scientific question stated. I don't believe a artist or social worker would write about earth in this manner. It's not like it can't happen but the specific manner of the story shows a scientist must have wrote it.

3.Lightman used a light hearted tone when at te end he was stating his views. He used a more serious tone when he was discussing other people concepts and so on. the effects of these tones show that there is a production for further research. the tones shows that there is a lot of questions that wants to be answered or moreso you can't always believe what you hear or read.

pg.385
1.To support the theory of evolution Goud mentions natural selection and impercepitble change through immedicate degrees.

2. He uses example such as "the dogma of seperate creations" to show and explain the idea of theories.

3.I don't completely understand anything from this reading but i do know it has something to do with evolution. This reading is not for all readers.

In the News (US Deficit)

Personally this is a sensitive topic because i don't know too much ways to respond to it but i do know that America will have to do something indeed. What ever they do i sure hope it does not affect the economy with more damage. I do belive that they will need o get rid of someting that their holding on to thats not necessary to pay off the debt. In reality, i do think that what ever the president tries to do will affect us in some way.

In the News Children Voting

1. Do you think it makes sense to let children have a Mock Election or election, or is it just child’s play?
I do believe it makes sense to let children have mock election. It gives children another way to see things outside of the box moreso in a political view.

2.Do you think children between the ages of 8-13 actually know what their talking about or do you think there just getting it from adults, parents, or people in the community? In some sense i do think in cases children do know what their talking about but majority they get things from their parents or whoever raise them. Children will get things from their parents and think it is te right way because they figure that if it was an issue than teir parents would not do it. If a kid keep hearing or seeing something that is done repitive in teir faces then of course they willadapt to it and thinks its te right way.

3.Do you think that it’s accurate to say that children can actually pick the right candidate for the presidential election? No really because nine times out of ten their choosing the candidate because of their parents. Who is to say that the child has differnt views than their parents.

Rough draft 2

In my culture your suppose to get married or think about a relationship after you graduate from college with a degree. You can't even speak about a boyfriend when your in your teens because it said to lose your focus. If you have a boyfriend or fall in love you some magically have a baby. These things happen if you let it or worse if your parents don't allow to experience these things.Well if you don't try things out or just don't love anyone at all, how will you love and appreciate life. Things like this can make you unhappy and very lonely.Perfect examples are some of those rich celebrities. You would think that with all that money in the world they would be happy.Wrong! Internally and mentally their suffering, lonely, miserable, and very unhappy. Why, because money can't buy you true happiness and true love.I bet they would trade anything just to be in love truly.

In the News Response to Trooper Act

I do think that the trooper act ws intentional. There wee ways he could of avoided hitting the suspect. I think he is making excuses for his actions because he got caught doing a harsh act.I don't think it was really a racist act but i do think that authorities will lokk at it that way. There are very few cases known about police cruelity because it looks really bad for the public. Those cases can also bring a lot of law suits. The government can lose numerous of dollars with cases like this and the higher people will be questioned if they can do their job correctly. I don't think the trooper punishment was reasonable because if it were a civilian trying to do that to a cop, they would want to charge him/her with attempted murder. In the society we are living in, they will always be favor for authorities and none for citizens. Authorities are the ones thats supposedly be doing our country a favor but at the same times they do just enough crimes.

Journal Entry 6

Its always been said to me that I'm to young to be in love. Even the questions of how this person can benefit you.In my culture your suppose to get married or think about a relationship after you graduate from college with a degree. The article below shows the exact reason. The main character was giving up hope on love at such an old age should i say. She tryed but it seem as if She was not getting antwhere. Untill the last person she could meet a person ends up at the end being a happy soul mate for her.In my opinion, love is a journey that shows no end.
The following article shows some of my reasons:

"It Was Love at 48th Sight"
By Jenny Rough
Here's how it all started: My friend Sara wanted to set me up with a Southern boy — Louisiana by way of Crossett, Arkansas, currently living in Los Angeles — but I balked at the idea. I grew up in Cleveland and Chicago and wasn't interested in dating a guy whose hobbies likely included hunting and fishing. Maybe it's wrong to base dating decisions on geographical preferences, but when it comes to love, people have funny expectations. I have one girlfriend who's convinced (thanks to her psychic aunt) that her future husband lives in Colorado and drives a white truck. I know another who refuses to date any man who's shorter than her when she's wearing Jimmy Choos

Another reason I was leery of a setup was that my history of blind dates had been awful. There was the hippie guy who was obsessed with his ex-girlfriend (she was a stewardess who had an affair with a pilot), the underwear guy whose boxer shorts bugged him (in the middle of our date, he unzipped his fly and yanked everything into position), and finally the dinner with a wannabe actor, arranged by my grandmother (enough said). Despite all this, I agreed to let Sara arrange a group outing with Ron. My parents met on a blind date 37 years ago, and they're still going strong. It can work. But when I saw Ron, it wasn't love at first sight. He had a scratchy voice, so I presumed he smoked. He was twelve years my senior — much too old. Also, he called me Ginny. "Not Ginny as in Virginia," I corrected. "Jenny as in Jennifer." "That's what I said. Ginny." He smiled, and I realized he was saying Jenny, but with his accent it sounded so, well, Southern. We went to an outdoor concert with Sara and her date. Sara gave me eyebrows when Ron wasn't looking. "No sparks," I whispered. As the evening wrapped up, Ron and I gave each other an awkward hug and called it a night. I doubted I'd ever see him again. A couple weeks later, I was squeezing my way through a crowded yoga studio looking for a spot when I heard, "Ginny?" Ron was sitting on a blue yoga mat, his legs stretched in front of him, and he scooted over to make room. He was cuter than I remembered. After class we grabbed a bite to eat. That night I learned an important lesson: My snap judgments can be way off. It turns out Ron's never touched a cigarette, let alone smoked one. He's a long-distance biker and in better shape than most guys my age. And in addition to yoga, we had a number of other similar interests (so much for my theory that he spent his weekends in camouflage). When we left the restaurant, Ron opened the door for me, and I remember thinking: I could dig this Southern chivalry stuff.

Two weeks later I found myself sitting across from him at a seafood restaurant on the Santa Monica pier. Somewhere in between salmon, salads, and a meaningful discussion about insomnia, I was beginning to feel a little chemistry, when suddenly Ron ordered carrot cake for dessert, casually suggesting he didn't like my favorite sweet treat — chocolate. I felt the weight of disappointment sink inside me as the waiter brought over his orange cake. When Ron prodded me to try a bite, I wrinkled my nose and planned to gulp, but there was something about the cream-cheese frosting and array of spices that surprised me. Carrot cake is delicious. Walking back to the car, Ron swiped my leg. "I like your pants," he said. They were purple pleather. He admitted that he thought the flowered skirt and matching green top I wore on our blind date was too conservative for his taste. "Hey, I can be wild," I said, shaking a pant leg at him. He pulled me close and kissed me. Even then, I wasn't sure we were a good match. The kiss felt nice but didn't exactly seal the deal. But still, I reasoned, it couldn't hurt to explore a new relationship. Dinner turned into dating. As our relationship continued our friendship deepened, and as our friendship deepened our attraction grew. Even though we had opposite tastes in music, we enjoyed taking dance lessons together. And although he loved to talk politics while I'd preferred debating the literary merits of the latest New York Times bestseller, I appreciated the intelligence and wit he brought to our conversations. We respected each other's differences and were willing to try new things. It eventually became clear that it didn't matter if Ron was from the south, the north, or the planet Neptune. It made no difference that he was Catholic and I was Protestant or that he would likely go bald by age 55. It did matter that he was thoughtful enough to call his mom each Sunday and that he always remembered to rinse off his dirty dishes. I found it endearing that he refused to kill any animal (instead, he would scoop spiders from my ceiling and set them free in the hills behind my apartment), and I was moved that when we were at a party he would seek out a lonely person and try to put them at ease. One day we were paddling a sea kayak across Kealakekua Bay. We'd been dating a little over four months and were taking our first vacation in Hawaii (we traveled together nicely, another huge plus), when suddenly it hit me: I'd fallen for him. It didn't happen in a Cloud Nine, exploding fireworks type of way, but it happened nonetheless. It was love at 48th sight.

Trooper says he couldn't avoid suspect with car
He testifies the crash was an accident and he regretted bragging about it.

GREENVILLE, S.C. - A South Carolina state trooper accused of deliberately running down a suspect with his cruiser said Wednesday the crash was "an unavoidable accident" and that he regretted bragging about it afterward.
"It's a collision that I'm sorry took place," Lance Cpl. Steven Garren said on the second day of his federal trial.
Garren is charged with using unreasonable force and depriving suspect Marvin Grant of his civil rights. Garren is white; Grant is black. A conviction could bring Garren up to 10 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
The trial hinges on a key video of the collision that shows Grant sprinting from the patrol car, then being hit and flipping over the hood. On the recording, Garren says to a deputy: "Yeah, I hit him. I was trying to hit him."
Garren said his statements embarrassed himself, his family and his department.
"The statement itself is not true. But I did say the statement," he said. "It's just a dumb, stupid statement."
The officer also said Grant ran in front of the cruiser "probably in the blink of an eye."
"It was an unavoidable accident," he said.
Earlier in the day, federal prosecutors wrapped up their case with a frame-by-frame analysis of the video.
Steered car into suspect's path?A witness for the prosecution said Garren steered his patrol car twice into Grant's path. Crash reconstruction expert Geoffrey Germane said when Grant suddenly cut to the right in front of the cruiser, Garren steered the car toward the suspect a second time and hit him.
Garren's attorneys argued there were assumptions and flaws in the Germane's report and have said the trooper tried to avoid hitting Grant.
The defense is expected to focus on whether the trooper had enough time to react to Grant's sudden turn.
Garren's trial is the first of two federal civil rights cases to come from a spate of police videos that showed questionable tactics by South Carolina troopers. The videos and how supervisors treated the officers on them brought the ousters of the heads of the Highway Patrol and Department of Public Safety earlier this year.
Garren was initially suspended for three days. He has been suspended since his federal indictment in June.
The videos have drawn scrutiny from the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People and the state's Legislative Black Caucus, which helped bring the videos to the public's attention.

Did you think the trooper act was intentional or actually a mistake? Was this a racist act? Why is that few cases are known or even noticed when it comes to the people civil rights against any type of police authority?Do you think the trooper punishment was reasonable? Do you think there is favor when it comes to governments acts and when it comes to citizens acts its something different? Why?
